The Buffalo State Performing Arts Center welcomes smooth jazz saxophonist Kirk Whalum. Kirk is a 12-time Grammy award nominee during his career that has spanned five decades. He won his first Grammy award in 2011 for Best Gospel Song (“It’s What I Do”, featuring Lalah Hathaway) alongside friend and writer Jerry Peters. Kirk toured with Whitney Houston for more than seven years and soloed on her hit single “I will Always Love You,” the best-selling single by a female artist in music history. He’s been featured on many Lither Vandross albums, has recorded many successful solo albums and film soundtracks, and recorded with R&B icon Babyface on his hit songs “Exhale(Shoop Shoop) and “When Can I see You.” In 2014, Kirk was the inaugural Jazz Legend honoree of the National Museum of African American Music in Nashville and has been honored with a start on the Nashville Walk of Fame.
